AN "ELECTRIFYING" QUESTION

Q: Why do Ground Fault Interrupters (GFIs) trip, causing nuisance calls when used to feed power to units like self-contained prep tables or self-contained freezers? I have had this scenario occur on several occasions, all in different buildings with no problems coming from the appliances. My fix has been to replace the GFIs with dedicated outlets to the appliance. ~Calderon

A: Greetings, Calderon. Sorry it took so long to answer you, but I wanted to survey as many electricians as possible. I know enough about electricity to wire switches and plugs and even install breakers. That being said, I am not a licensed electrician and should not be giving advice about the trade. I spoke with three different tradesmen and they all had similar thoughts, including problems with the units to faulty GFIs. They also suggested as you noted that some appliances should have their own dedicated circuits. They ALL agreed on one thing: without actually being there with their meters in hand, they could not and would not be able to answer your questions. They ALL told me to advise you to have a local licensed electrician take a look and help you solve your dilemma. Hope this helps!

Because we used Calderon’s question here, he’ll get some great FREE STUFF. Want your own? Send me a question, and if I use it here, I’ll send you some FREE STUFF too!

JIM'S TIPS

Here at Beyond Repair, we know that Factory Authorized Parts, like motors, are always the right choice when it comes to repairing Carrier®, Bryant® and Payne® equipment. And we’ve told you about some of the great benefits F.A.P. offers, like perfect fit and efficiency. These are real reasons to use F.A.P., without a doubt, but have you wondered what else an F.A.P. motor can offer you – and your customer?

1. When you choose to use F.A.P. motors in your customer’s Carrier, Bryant, or Payne equipment, the original manufacturer's factory warranty is preserved.

2. F.A.P. motors also preserve the original manufacturer's factory efficiency of not only the motor, but the complete system as well.

3. Engineered sound requirements are preserved.

4. F.A.P. motors meet engineering's rigorous run life design specifications.

5. F.A.P. motors have passed a 500-hour salt spray test, which measures the motor's ability to withstand corrosion.

6. F.A.P. motors are UL and/or CSA approved, with internal automatic reset overload protection.

7. Electrical connections and lead length are exact, as well as shaft length and mounting characteristics.

8. F.A.P. motors perform in an ambient temperature range from -30°F and 145°F.

As you can see, using F.A.P. motors just makes good sense. So next time you’re in the market for a replacement motor, check out the wide variety of F.A.P. motors, always available at your local Totaline sales center.
